EDP Energias de Portugal is the largest generator, distributor, and supplier of electricity in Portugal, with significant operations in electricity and gas in Spain. EDP is one of the major electricity generation companies and one of the largest gas distributors in the Iberian Peninsula. It has wind energy parks at home on the Iberian Peninsula as well as in the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Mexico. EDP is developing new projects in the United Kingdom. Additionally, EDP produces photovoltaic solar energy in Portugal, Romania, and the United States. In Brazil, EDP is the fifth largest private generator of electric energy, with two concessions for electricity distribution. EDP is the third biggest private supplier in the liberalized market.
EDP has a strong presence in the energy market worldwide, operating in 14 countries and serving more than 10 million electricity customers with 1.4 million gas supply points and over 12,000 employees. In 2016, EDP had an installed capacity of 25.2 GW and a production of 70 TWh, 65% of which came from renewable energies.
